Always take the knitting with you.

Determined to finally finish the Raspberry Baby Blanket, I carried it with me to work on while I waited for my son’s therapy appointments to finish. One of the cooks at a bagel place I walked into noticed it and started asking questions. Next thing I know, she’s comissioned a sweater with a matching hat and booties! Very cool.

I didn’t have the right yarn on hand because she wanted the same colorway as the blanket in cotton. I chose Elann.com’s Sonata.

Sonata knitted swatch in "Pink Pearl".

A: is stockinette stitch
B: is seed stitch
C: is garter stitch
D: the start of k2 p2 ribbing

This is a raglan sweater which is taking a lot more time than I anticipated. I’ve definately undercharged but live and learn. I’ve made all the pieces on the knitting machine and now have to do the seaming and hand knit the button bands and collar. Here’s the back.

Starting at the top we have 7099 Inca Gold, 5398 Cedar, 3085 Pink Pearl, 3611 Ruby and 2355 Tapestry Blue. The sleeves, button bands and collar are Ruby. The cuffs, hems, button bands and collar are done in garter stitch. This is going to be a really pretty set when it’s done. I’m TRYING to finish the sweater by tomorrow night but things are moving slow in the finishing department. I still haven’t figured out a bootie pattern for the knitting machine. I don’t really want to do them by hand at this point because it’s coming close to two months that I’ve been working on this project. LIVE and LEARN.

P.S. The knitting on the Raspberry Baby Blanket was completed in October but there are a lot of ends to weave in.

[...] It began with a bagel and a deluded sense that somehow, the fact that I had major issues with another cotton sweater would have no bearing on my ability to make a 100% cotton, raglan cardigan quickly and professionally (I even bought ribbon to line the button bands). [...]
